Register infrastructure

Infrastructure registration creates the trust and direction boundary for all later work.

Before registration​

  • Put each ONTAP credential in Vault KV v2 with username and password keys.
  • Confirm DonkeyFleet trusts the endpoint certificate.
  • Decide whether the cluster is source-role or destination-role.
  • Record the exact management endpoint; do not place secrets in application configuration.

Register a cluster​

In Infrastructure, enter the display name, management endpoint, role, platform type, and Vault path. DonkeyFleet probes the endpoint and records its physical cluster UUID and ONTAP version.

The source role is a permanent write boundary: no DonkeyFleet code path may write through a source-role cluster record.

Register an SVM pair​

Select one source SVM and one destination SVM and verify the displayed direction.

Activate the pair only after peer access, schedules, policies, and destination aggregates are visible. DonkeyFleet presents discovery results; the administrator remains responsible for the placement and schedule choice.

Archive, do not repurpose​

Archive retired infrastructure records instead of changing their identity or reversing their role. A source/destination reversal is a different protection relationship and must be modeled explicitly.
